After a long vacation of inconsistent trading we are getting back on the horse. Last month we made $1,837 or 5.4% equity growth.  Lets see if we can maintain the momentum.

December 2013

Posted by Kris Pivo on Wednesday, January 1, 2014, In : Monthly Performance
In December we made a profit of $863.44, or 2.7% equity growth. We traded defensively -- not to take too much risk in a thinly traded markets -- and we finished the year with an overall capital growth of 20.1%, but more on that in a separate note.

November 2013

In November we we took four trades and we made a modest profit of $792, or 2.5% equity growth (see picture below).

Year to date, our equity growth is 16.9%... we have few trading days left until the end of the year.

October 2013

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, November 2, 2013, In : Monthly Performance

In October we have hardly traded and we made $122.96 of profit... the auto-scaling of the equity histogram is somewhat misleading, but it will come right next month.

July 2013

Posted by Kris Pivo on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, In : Monthly Performance

In July we made a profit of $1,526, or 5.4% equity growth. We achieved it with only four high probability trades.
Finally we have wiped-out the loss we made in April and our equity curve can return to its natural shape, trending upwards.

2010 to 2013

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, June 29, 2013, In : Monthly Performance

Purely out of interest, see our equity curve (green histogram) from Nov 2010 to June 2013; that is all I can fit on my screen. The April 2013 loss really messed-up our straight line equity growth, but as my friend said, it shows that I am a human after all and it demonstrates our ability to recover from a problematic situation. Besides, we all know the risks associated with financial markets.

YTD June 2013

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, June 29, 2013, In : Monthly Performance

Year to date we have made $1,183.90 profit, or 4.4% equity growth. This is rather underwhelming performance, but we have a good recovery plan.  We were in a difficult situation this year, as we incurred $3,812 loss in April, when we made elementary error and got stuck on the wrong side of the market. We are still recovering from this embarrassing position, but we buttoned-down the hatches, we improved our risk mitigating measures and we are recovering fast; the equity curve (green histogram b...

June 2013

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, June 29, 2013, In : Monthly Performance
We had a relatively good trading month with $1,820.55 net profit, or 6.9% equity growth. It is interesting, however, that we that we made this profit with only three positions. This confirms the effectiveness of our risk mitigating strategy, where we take fewer, but higher probability trades.

April 2013

Posted by Kris Pivo on Sunday, May 12, 2013, In : Monthly Performance

In April 2013 we had a first serious loss in the last three years. We lost $3,812, but for a really annoying reason. Anyway we have recomposed ourselves and we are trading back!

Remainder to self: "Keep Calm and Take Profit!"

1st Quarter 2013

Posted by Kris Pivo on Monday, April 1, 2013, In : Monthly Performance
We had a very slow 1st quarter of 2013, with equity growth of 8.8%, or profit of $2,391. This is rather pedestrian performance, but we were rather busy in the office with little time to analyse the markets and trade. See equity growth histogram below.

February 2013

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, March 9, 2013, In : Monthly Performance
In February we made a good progress, although we had to scale-down our trading activities because of high level of volatility in the market and our travel schedule. We made a profit of $1,635.90, or 5.8% equity growth for the month and 8.7% growth YTD!

January 2013

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, February 2, 2013, In : Monthly Performance
In January we had a good start, and then we flat-lined or rather took our eyes off the market, while focusing on our real job.
Overall we made $901 profit or 3.3% equity gain. Hopefully we have more time to trade in February.

December 2012

November 2012

Posted by Kris Pivo on Friday, November 30, 2012, In : Monthly Performance
In November we increased our equity by 2.4%; year to date we are up 29.7%. Last month the market offered us a number of good opportunities; we missed a few, but we managed to capitalised on the best moves.
As we are entering December, we are testing our 2013 strategy, which is designed to maintain the current risk levels and capture larger directional moves. We plan to switch to the new strategy at the end of the year.

October 2012

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, October 27, 2012, In : Monthly Performance
In October, the Cable was up to its usual tricks, with strong swings in both directions. Choppy markets tend to shake off smaller players, who often get stuck on the wrong side of the market.
Anyway, we made a profit of $1,267 (less $14 swap charges) and we are 5.2% up in the last month. The total score for a year is $5,298 profit after swap charges, or 26.2% equity growth.

September 2012

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, September 29, 2012, In : Monthly Performance
In September we mede a loss of $44. The equity histogram tells the story (see picture below); we got caught on the wrong side of the market and we hit our stop-loss at H5 level. Just as well we got out, as market continued running higher. We traded back our loss, but we ran out of time to break even for the month. We anticipate better trading conditions next month!

June 2012

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, June 30, 2012, In : Monthly Performance
We had only three trades in the entire month of June (see our equity curve/histogram). We made only $343 for the entire month, but YTD we are exactly 20% up! This is below our original expectations, but we are focusing on mitigating risks and the EU is not in a good shape right now.

May 2012

February 2012

In February we made a profit of $692.50 and we grew our capital by 5.9% year to date. See below the equity curve for Feb-2012.

January 2012

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, February 4, 2012, In : Monthly Performance

We had a slow start to the year. In January 2012 we made $480.50 or 2.4% equity growth. We missed some good opportunities and we are still optimizing the position sizing for our new algorithm. We should see improvement in February.

December 2011

Posted by Kris Pivo on Friday, December 30, 2011, In : Monthly Performance
In December we made a profit of $788.30. In the 4th quarter of 2011, our equity grew by 9.0%. And finally, for the full year (2011) our equity grew by staggering 60.4%. That is a spectacular performance, given all the problems we had in the financial markets!
We are logging off and will restart our trading on the 2-Jan-2012.

September 2011

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, October 1, 2011, In : Monthly Performance
As you can see our equity curve is flat like a panecake, i.e. we have not made any money in September. In fact while testing new strategy for 2012 we got stuck in a trade, which is not reflected on the Equity Curve(?) I must review the source code of the Equity Growth indicator to show open positions... when I get to it.

July 2011

June 2011

In June we made $476.50 or 2.9% equity growth. As you can see from the mostly flat equity curve, between our real job and some travels, we didn't have much time to trade. However, it is encouraging that we can stop and start our trading without missing a beat.

Equity Curve in 2011 vs 2010

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, May 28, 2011, In : Monthly Performance
We are running our 2011 strategy for the last 5 months and it is worth while to take a moment and review its effectiveness. Our ultimate measure of success is represented by the equity curve, which shows win-loss, trade-by-trade [see chart below]. The objective is to have a smooth equity curve, starting at the bottom left corner and ending in the top right corner with the least deviation from a straight line. I.e. we don't like major step changes [up or down] as it indicates major market shif...

April 2011

The Cable strengthened gradually in April and we capitalised on the majority of the directional moves.  We made a profit of $715 or 4.9% equity growth. See the Equity Curve on the chart below.

We didn't shoot the lights out in April, but our YTD performance is 23.6% and overall we are comfortable with our performance.

March 2011

In March 2011 we had some directional moves within a range of 500 pips. The market was relatively stable and hardly affected by the economical crisis and political instability. We made a profit of $761.30 for the month, which translates into 5.5% equity growth [see chart below].

February 2011

February 2011 was a clasical Cable market, ranging within 400 pips.  Our 2011 strategy returned $624.40 and our old (2010) strategy returned $502.40. See below the Charts with respective Equity Curves.

Last week we finally got the Cup & Handle breakout (on daily timeframe), but it faded away on Thursday and Friday.  Lets see if the Cable gains momentun next week or rolls-over.

Clearly our 2011 strategy is working.  Lets see if we can sustain it.

December 2010

Posted by Kris Pivo on Saturday, January 1, 2011, In : Monthly Performance
In Dec 2010 we made only $402.60 or 3.3% growth. This is because we got stuck in an unprofitable position that we held over the last two weeks, which we closed ahead of the year end.
Well, we can't win them all and we need to move on. We had a pedestrian performance last week, but we are satisfied that we had a positive growth in Dec 2010 (3.3%), positive 4th quarter (20%) and positive year (45%).
Watch this space in 2011, as our new strategy goes into production.
